Dan Hackney agrees new deal for 2027 season

Forward Dan Hackney has committed his immediate future to Rochdale Hornets, signing a new one-year deal with the club ahead of the 2027 season.

Hackney first arrived at the Crown Oil Arena back in August, making three appearances before the conclusion of the campaign.

The teenager made an immediate impression and has now agreed to remain with the club for a further year, allowing him to bolster his game time at first-grade level.

“I'm over the moon to sign for next season at the Hornets,” Hackney said.

“I really enjoyed the few games I had last year. I loved representing the club and can't wait to do so again, hopefully putting a smile on the faces of our supporters.

“Gary Thornton and the club put their faith in me at the end of last season, to let me come in and play a few games. When there are people like that at a club, it makes it an easy decision on who to sign for and fight for on the pitch.”

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: "We are delighted to have retained Dan's services, despite him attracting interest from elsewhere in the Championship.

“Having joined us at the back end of last season from Leigh, Dan showed a fantastic attitude and work ethic. He also put in some solid performances, both on an edge and in the middle.

“He is a big, aggressive young forward who Gary was really keen to retain, and he will be looking to kick on and really establish himself in 2027, I'm sure.”
