Hornets Women to face RAF Rugby League

Rochdale Hornets Women will face the Royal Air Force (RAF) Rugby League in their latest international fixture on Saturday 29 August.

The event follows on from the success of last weekend's 16-16 draw with Greece at The Hive, which formed part of the club's two-year anniversary celebrations at Balderstone Park. 

The next international challenge for Ben Bird's side against the RAF (2pm kick-off) will take place over the August Bank Holiday, one week before the Northern League 1 play-offs which the Hornets Women remain in contention to reach.

"This is another fantastic opportunity for the girls as we welcome a representative team to The Hive again,” said women’s head coach Ben Bird.  

“It will be another exciting occasion for us to use to raise the profile of women's rugby league in Rochdale. 

“Last week's Greece game was a huge success on and off the field, providing valuable game time for the girls and receiving amazing buy-in from a growing, supportive rugby league community. I'd personally love to see the same again.”

Cpl Hannah McCabe, RAF Rugby League women's team manager, said: "We’re really looking forward to heading over to Rochdale and getting the team out for one last build-up fixture before our interservice competition in September. 

"The game will be a good challenge and opportunity for players to put together all they’ve worked on this season."
