Young outside back Alex Chippendale joins Hornets

Rochdale Hornets have completed the signing of talented outside back Alex Chippendale on a permanent deal.
The 19-year-old makes the move to the Crown Oil Arena from Super League side Huddersfield Giants.
A product of their academy, Chippendale rose through the ranks at the West Yorkshire outfit to make his professional debut in the Fourth Round of the Challenge Cup against Hull KR in March.
A skilful outside back who has primarily operated on the wing, Chippendale earned plaudits from his performances in the Giants Academy, in particular, during their final game of the 2025 season, where he scored a hat-trick and made 210 metres with 21 carries in a 36-6 victory over Wakefield Trinity.
On his move to the Hornets, Chippendale said: “I’m really excited to be joining Rochdale Hornets. This is a big opportunity for me to grow and test myself at a high level.
“The ambition around the club and the belief they have in young players really stood out to me.
“I can’t wait to get going, learn from the lads and coaches, and give everything I’ve got in a Rochdale shirt.”
Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey added: “When we found out Alex was leaving Huddersfield and looking to secure an opportunity in the Championship, we moved quickly to bring him over to meet Gary and the staff and group, and I'm delighted we have subsequently been able to secure his services.
“Alex is a quick, athletic outside back with a fantastic attitude, and he has already played Super League and will be looking to make a name for himself at Championship level with Rochdale Hornets.”
