MOMENT OF THE DECADE - LEAGUE 1 PROMOTION FINAL 2016

OUR PROMOTION FINAL WIN OVER TOULOUSE OLYMPIQUE IS OPTION THREE IN OUR MOMENT OF THE DECADE SHORT LIST.

Rochdale Hornets travelled to Toulouse Olympique in the 2016 promotion final. The club was written off at the start of the year after a poor 2015. Under the stewardship of new coach Alan Kilshaw, the club went on a 12-game unbeaten run to establish themselves as genuine promotion contenders.

Hornets had met Olympique twice already that season, playing out a thrilling draw at Spotland before being roundly beaten just weeks before the final in the South of France.

The final was a game for the ages. The home side raced into a 16-0 lead with their star-studded squad sweeping all in front of it aside before Hornets fought back.

Two tries either side of the break from Jack Holmes and Lewis Galbraith handed Hornets a lifeline, making the score 16-14, but Hornets had the momentum as a second from Holmes and a match winner from Chris Riley was enough to hand Hornets a historic win.

To add further drama to the script, Paul Crook drew level as Rochdale Hornets all-time leading points scorer kicking four goals on the day.

To select this as your moment of the decade, don't forget to vote on Twitter @RochdaleHornets when the poll opens on New Years Eve.
