HORNETS CEO STEVE KERR TO LEAVE

Hornets confirm that Chief Executive Steve Kerr has tendered his resignation to take up a new role with Super League club Leigh Leopards.

Steve will leave the club after our Betfred League One game against Dewsbury on Sunday 26 March.

Speaking about the news Chairman Andy Mazey said: “I would like to thank Steve for all his hard work and for his support of the board, the club and myself personally.

“Steve leaves us on good terms and with our very best wishes. He and his family will always be made most welcome at Rochdale Hornets.

“Steve’s departure allows us to look at doing things differently as in reality the CEO position was a historic role and was becoming less sustainable year on year.

“We are already hard at work remodelling and planning and are working closely with key stakeholders to manage Steve’s departure and a replacement.”

Upon the announcement of his exit from the club, Steve, with a heavy heart said: “I’ve been at the club for five and a half years and enjoyed many highs and experienced only a few lows.

“I’m leaving the club in a stable position and in the safe hands of Chairman Andy Mazey.

“I have the upmost respect and admiration for Andy, it’s been a privilege to work for him and his board of directors.

“My decision to leave the club was a difficult one only made harder by the incredible staff that we have at this club.

“I’d like to personally thank Head coach Gary [Thornton], Team manager Dave [Ramsbottom] and medical lead Hayley [Price] for all their hard work and dedication over the years.

“That thanks extends to all our staff and volunteers in commercial, media, medical and match ops. You all do a fantastic job at this club and are the engine room that drives the club forward.

“I’ll look back at my time with immense pride. There is a very clear vision from Andy and the board, and I know this club will succeed.

“With more support from the people of the town, the club can push forward, and my departure allows for a new structure to be put in place that can help maximise future opportunities.”

Finally, Steve wanted to extend his thanks and best wishes to the supporters of the club.

He said: “Lastly, I can’t thank the fans enough for all the help and support over the years.

“I’ll cherish some great memories and I’ll look forward to joining you watching the lads from the stands.

 “Up the Nets.”

More details on further developments will follow in due course.
