Hornets sign Warrington’s Jacob Gannon on loan

Rochdale Hornets is proud to announce the signing of promising 20-year-old, Jacob Gannon, on an initial two-week loan deal.

The powerful forward has impressed in the Warrington Wolves academy, with his performances earning him a call-up to the England Academy performance squad last summer.

Gannon also comes from a strong rugby league background, with his father Jim having played for Halifax – where he was coached by Hornets’ Matt Calland.

Calland is understandably excited by the signing.

He said: “I’m delighted that we’ve brought in another young, enthusiastic, player to freshen up the squad.

“Jacob is an exciting talent having played for England academy, and now for Warrington’s reserves.

Obviously, he comes from a really good pedigree as well – with his father being Jim Gannon.”

Hornets Chairman, Andy Mazey, is equally thrilled by the acquisition.

He said: “With Paul Brearley suspended, Matt was keen to add to his pack options and we became aware of Jacob’s potential availability.

“Jacob’s dad played for Matt at Halifax, in the same side as our skipper Penkywicz, and Matt was very keen to try and get him onboard.

“I have a good relationship with Jacob’s agent and Karl Fitzpatrick over at Warrington and, thanks to the support of both, we have been able to reach an agreement - welcome to Hornets Jacob.”

Gannon will come straight into contention for Sunday’s crunch local derby with Oldham, at the Vestacare Stadium (3pm kick-off).
