Josh Jordan-Roberts previews Barrow Raiders clash

Rochdale Hornets will be looking to bounce back this weekend as we host Barrow Raiders at the Crown Oil Arena in the Betfred League 1 competition.

Matt Calland’s side currently sit seventh in the table, but just a win percentage of 3% behind next place Hunslet in a play-off spot.

This week's opposition in Barrow currently sit at the top of the League 1 table and will be looking to earn automatic promotion into the Championship competition for the 2022 season.

On the clash, Josh Jordan-Roberts said: “Barrow is always a tough game. They’ve got some top, top quality players. They’ve got middles that work extremely hard and know their job. And on the back of that their backs have the ability to score from anywhere. But saying that, so do we. We’ve proven this year our team can take on anyone but this may be the toughest challenge yet.

“The beauty of sport is that there is always a chance to rectify the wrongs from the previous game. We know a lot went wrong last week so I’m expecting a massive reaction from each and every player that pulls on the jersey this week.”

Jordan-Roberts has been ever-present in the Hornets squad in 2021, which has included converting 24 goals in the league.

The back-rower joined the club ahead of the current campaign, and looking back on his first season, he said: “I’d reflect on the 2021 season as one with highs and lows. We’ve the highs of putting Doncaster to the sword at home but the lows of last week.

“We know as a squad we are capable of doing something special and it’s frustrating that we’ve not been able to do it. On a personal note; I’d reflect on this season as one in which for the first time in years I’ve enjoyed playing and played with a smile on my face.”

Speaking of his first year in front of Hornets fans, Jordan-Roberts added: “A special one. Starting the season behind closed doors then travelling away for six games on the bounce to then come home to a fan base that had being waiting 18 months to see their team play was such a humbling moment to be a part of.

“I also think the fans deserve credit too especially for those who have travelled far and wide to give the boys support!”

Supporters can purchase tickets online for this Sunday’s clash with Barrow Raiders, while our newest mascot, Hooper, will also make their debut inside the Crown Oil Arena.

Squad news will be announced later today.
