Brad Holroyd wants to 'win as many games as possible'

Youngster Brad Holroyd has said that he wants to win as many games as possible with the club while on loan from Championship outfit, Leigh Centurions.

Holroyd, who signed a professional contract with the Centurions from Leigh East in January this year, joined Hornets on loan alongside teammate and former Super League player Martyn Ridyard.

And the Warrington-born utility back has said his goals while under head coach Matt Calland.

“To win as many games as possible for the club while I’m here,” Holroyd said.

“On a personal level, I also want to gain experience and game time playing at a good level.

“Rochdale is a great club. It looks like the club are building something special here, which is exciting as a player.

“It’s a great opportunity to get some game time.”

Holroyd, who became the first Leigh Centurions player to be born in the year 2000, made his Hornets debut in the 29-14 victory over Keighley Cougars in the League 1 opener at the Crown Oil Arena.

Andy Lea scored the first try of the League 1 campaign for Hornets, while Sean Penkywicz and Callum Marriott also displayed impressive performances.

Jamie Tracey, Liam Whalley and Sam Hopkins also scoring on the day, with six goals from full-back Sam Freeman.

“It was good to get the win on my debut,” he said.

“It was a real test in those condition but that second half defensive performance won us the game.

“I’ve enjoyed it so far. Everyone has been really welcoming and it’s been an easy transition for me.

“It’s been good working with Matt. He’s a good coach and gets the best out of the lads.”

This weekend, the squad travel to Bootham Crescent in the fifth round of the Coral Challenge Cup to face York City Knights.

Hornets have defeated York Acorn and the British Army respectively to reach this stage of the Cup, and will have a tough test against James Fords’ side, but Holroyd admits the squad will be ready.

“Anything can happen in 80 minutes in rugby league,” Holroyd said.

“It’s knock out rugby, so it’s exciting. They're a great side and did really well in the Championship last year. I’m sure we will do our homework and will be fully prepared for Sunday.”

Tickets will be available on the day this Sunday, with a split gate with the Championship side.
