After an arduous bidding process, Rochdale Hornets dream was realised on October 28, 2013 as rugby league fans from across the world packed into Spotland on a drizzly Monday evening. Only this time they weren’t here to see Hornets vs Keighley – this was the biggest stage of them all.

Fiji and Ireland battled it out in a RLWC pool game which saw some of rugby league’s biggest names take to the field. 

A star-studded Fiji outfit were victorious on the night with a raft of NRL stars on the score sheet. A hat trick from Akuila Uate and tries from Kavin Naquama, Tariq Sims and Korbin Sims sealed a hard-fought win but the event captured the imagination of everyone in the borough of Rochdale as traditional Fijian hymns rang around Spotland.
