Skolars end long slump

A last-minute try and conversion enabled London Skolars to end their 30-match losing run in Co-operative Championship One with a 28-26 victory over Rochdale.

The Skolars were trailing 26-22 with time fast running out when Sam Gee went over for their fifth try of the match to tie the scores and Paul Thorman held his nerve to give them their first win since May 2009.

Tries from Jy-Mel Coleman, Thorman and John Paxton, all converted by Thorman, had given the Londoners an 18-0 lead but scores either side of half-time from Dale Bloomfield and Steven Roper brought the visitors back into contention.

Paxton scored his second try but Hornets looked to have secured the points when tries from Phil Wood, Andrew Saywell and Bloomfield gave them a four-point lead.
