Taylor Welch joins Hornets for the remainder of the season

ROCHDALE Hornets have added USA star Taylor Welch to their ranks for the remainder of the 2018 season.

28-year-old-Welch, who can play at centre, wing and full back, joins up with the squad following his return from Australia where he played for Intrust Super Cup side Mendi Blackhawks in Townsville.

USA born Welch relocated from his hometown of Dallas, Texas to Warrington where he came through the ranks at Warrington Wolves under Paul Cullen.

Welch also starred for the USA Tomahawks in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup where he caught the attention of clubs down under and signed for the Blackhawks ahead of the 2015 season.

Hornets head coach, Alan Kilshaw spoke of his delight in capturing Welch: “I am delighted we have been able to add a player of Taylor’s quality to the squad at this stage of the year.

“We have been actively looking to strengthen and after initial conversations with him we moved quickly to get him over from Australia.”

Killer went on to speak of the cover Taylor can provide in the backs.

“He can cover all the outside back positions and is a good athlete. He has the experience of a World Cup and Queensland Cup under his belt, along with a handful of Super League appearances.

“We are looking forward to what he will bring on and off the field.”

Welch will take the number four jersey and is available to sponsor.
